When it comes to fly fishing, the jargon can get a bit overwhelming if you let it. Here’s the plain English scoop on some common terms used.

Understanding Fly Fishing Targets On Flowing Water

Fly fishing is many things to many people. For some, it is a zen like way to interact with nature. For others, it is test of skill in the act of competing with tricky little fish. For yet others, it is a ballet of artistic movements and techniques to obtain the perfect cast for the perfect fly placement that produces the perfect catch. For most, it is just good, clean fun. Whatever your preference, fly fishing has a definite language you will need to learn.

Traditionally, fly fishing takes place on flowing water such as a river or stream. There are variations for lake or ocean destinations, but they represent a minority. Given this fact, following is an explanation of some of the terms associated with traditional fly fishing.

A “riffle” is an area with fast moving water broken up over some solid structure, most often rocks. A rifle can be an excellent location to cast for a number of reasons. The riffle tends to be an area where insects congregate. Where there are insects, there are fish. In particular, try to cast to areas just downstream of blockages as your catch should be residing in such locations.

A “pool” is an area where fast flowing water enters a deeper pool of water. Often found just after riffles, a pool offers little in the way of prospecting in the interior. It does, however, offer excellent prospects in the areas where water flows in. More than a few species of fish feed at such locations as the water flowing into the pool brings food and nutrients with it.

“Dead water” refers to an area where there is little or no current. This tends to occur in odd geographic areas, large rivers or areas with flow problems. Dead water is rarely a good place to fish, so avoid it like the plague.

Although not a term per se, vegetation that grows out into the water and shady shoreline locations are often excellent places to fish. These locations offer the combination of shade and nutrients, which are popular with fish. When referring to shade, it is important to understand that fish are not generally worried about sunburns. Instead, they are worried about dive bombing birds such as Osprey. A fish that cruises along the top of a pool of water in direct sunlight tends to have a very short life span.

Obviously, the above represents a small sampling of terminology related to rivers and moving areas. Nonetheless, you will at least know why so many anglers talk about riffles.

To be at the top of every pro bass fishing tournament you need to know more about bass than probably you know about your wife. If you are happy to be an amateur bass fisherman who occasionally catches a fish then continue doing what you are doing.

However, if you are anxious to become a better bass fisherman and to be a serious competitor in pro bass fishing tournaments (and have a huge trophy bass mounted on your wall) then you need these top pro bass fishing tips and techniques up your sleeve.

Different bass fishing locations will have different weather conditions. You need to use the best tools for the current weather conditions so that you can fish like a pro wherever you are, and in whatever weather conditions you are in.

BASS FISHING IN WARMER CONDITIONS

Bass notice when the days start getting longer. In warmer weather conditions they will be getting ready to hit warm shallow waters to feed.

The northwest position of a lake or in primary creek arms seem to hold the largest bass and are an ideal fishing hot spot.

Banks that have a lot of cover will also house some nice sized bass.

Once temperatures rise and hotter conditions prevail bass tend to migrate to river systems and murky lakes.

BASS FISHING IN COOLER CONDITIONS

When conditions are cooler most largemouth bass follow bait fish into impoundments or shallows. Try to match your lure to the type and size of bait fish that the bass are feeding on. Try casting right into the schools of bait fish.

In winter largemouth bass head for deeper water. There is definitely more of a challenge to catching bass in winter. They conserve their energy, having eaten aplenty in the warmer periods, and so bass activity will be significantly reduced.

However, cooler weather conditions mean you’ll have less competition and quite often this is when you’ll find your largest trophy bass.

The most popular bass bait for cooler conditions is soft baits, followed by hard baits.

In windy conditions pro bass anglers will go to fishing spots where they’ve found plankton hoping that largemouth bass will be feeding off smaller fish who are, in turn, feeding off plankton.

When light is low largemouth bass tend to feed more often. Moderate rain will often heavy feeding while heavier rainfall may make them retreat though it’s possible to find largemouth bass feeding wildly about 15 feet below surface.

Fly fishing is one of the most popular forms of angling on the planet. It is far superior in the way of skills that are required and that means that you will be having a grand time no matter what. A fly fishing vacation is not for everyone. There is something special about this type of thing that not everyone will enjoy. Fly fishing requires so much more that many people do not find it enjoyable to say the least. That is why there are not a lot of top locations that are specific to fly fishing but there are some and that means a lot of action for the few that will make the trip.

Madison Valley River provides a great place for a fly fishing vacation. There are several cabins that are allocated only for the fly fishing parties that come in. The fishing is well above the bar. The trout come running down the river at certain times of the year and you can catch your limit within a few hours time.

Yellowstone River makes the best of a fly fishing vacation. This area is one of the best when it comes to fly fishing and people from all over the world fly in for that reason. There is only walking or boating access to the fly fishing vacation areas so that means that you can have a quiet and exciting vacation without all the hassles of the more crowded areas.

South Fork Snake River is a wonderful spot for the fly fishing vacation that you are planning. The main problem is the fact that so many know about it and it can be hard for you to get a spot. The reservations are taken a year ahead of time and they are limited to one week of fishing. This is not a problem because there is some serious action in this area and catching your limit is more than easy.

Henry’s Lake provides all the best in fly fishing action. The fish are large in this area so prepare for a fight when one is hooked. There is more than enough room to stay and you can have a cabin for up to one month. Be careful though as the license costs are on the rise in this state.

Big Hole lake is probably one of the largest areas to take a fly fishing vacation. There is enough room for a large amount of people and that means that it can get a bit crowded if you go at the wrong time of the year. Early spring is best and offers some great action.

Before heading out to catch some bass, take a look at these 20 important bass fishing tips.

1. Fish slowly, providing better action and enabling the fish to have ample eye contact.

2. When the bite seems to slow down, you should slow also down. Work methodically until you find the fish.

3. Always be aware of your weather forecast. Wind, storms, and lightening kill. Safety comes first.

4. If wet feet bother you on rainy days, try a pair of GORE-TEX sox. They are waterproof and can be worn in any shoe or boot.

5. Be alert and watchful. Fish give away their presence 90% of the time through baitfish fleeing; surface action; or vegetation movement.

6.Always look in a bass’ mouth before releasing it. Most of the time, when fighting a lure in his jaw, a bass will try to throw up whatever is in his stomach. You may be able to determine what prey the fish are actively feeding on and choose a lure/presentation to duplicate it.

7.Set the hook on a fish by feel rather than by sight.

8. Regularly check your knot for weakness and hook for sharpness.

9. Bass are not that smart. A swivel does not affect the action of a lure in a negative way and fish don’t really care about it. Use one anytime there is the potential for line twist.

10. If you are using small hooks, don’t jerk hard on the hookset; just tighten up the slack with the rod and reel faster.

11. Check your line just above the lure frequently when fishing crankbaits around rocks, gravel, stumps, and other hard obstructions. They can quickly fray your line.

12. Bass normally respond best to an erratic retrieve and a lot of motion. Keep that lure in front of the fish as long as you can.

13. Hold your rod tip down and to the side for better feel, keeping the angle between rod and line at around 90 degrees.

14. Black buzz baits seem to produce more strikes than bright colors.

15. Since the bass’s metabolism is high, use large crankbaits in warm and hot weather. Switch to smaller baits when the water is cooler.

16. Use a wire cross-locking snap when fishing crank plugs. It allows you to change lures quickly and enables the bait to vibrate more freely.

17. If you notice feeding fish and baitfish movement, the predators are actively after the prey. Switch to a fast moving crankbait and burn it through the area of activity.

18. Protect your eyes with a good pair of plastic polarized sunglasses. They will protect you from the sun’s rays and also provide a shield against a snagged slip sinker or lure flying back when pulled loose.

19. Keep baits fresh and airtight with a food vacuum sealer. You can also store hooks and other terminal tackle this way.

20. Store small quantities of hooks with a few grains of rice and they will never rust.

Using these tips will help you increase your bass catch!

Bass fishing with topwater baits is without a doubt the most fun you can have fishing for large or smallmouth bass. People watch these bass tournaments on the tube and see all these pros using plastic and spinner baits jigs and crankbaits, forget about the fun and excitement you get with topwater baits. Topwater baits create great action and stories to pass on to family and fishing friends.

The best time I find for topwater bass fishing is in summer, the colder the water the slower the response, and the more you have to work that bait. Early morning and evening are best for topwater bass fishing.

Of course weather effects your choice of lures also, on a bright sunny day it is better to have a light wind to go with it, a bit of a chop makes the bass less spooky. On a calm sunny day use a heavier lure and lighter line for longer casts. Bass tend to become real spooky in calm and clear water, so the further the cast from you the better off you’ll be.

Wind can also change the type of topwater bait you can use I believe that when the wind comes up you should use a smaller bait that makes a lot of noise. The larger baits just plow through the chop, while the smaller baits ride the chop and still make that enticing noise to get the strike you want. Also try to fish through the troughs created by the wind.

Bass fishing topwater baits has some of it’s own quirks you want to be able to make pinpoint casts to cover areas and make a clear retrieve. Most of your topwater bass fishing will be done in shallow water over weed beds, flats and around objects and shoreline cover. The majority of bass population remains in shallow water all summer.

To fish bass with topwater baits cast about a foot or two past your target and bring it as close to the cover as possible. If you do not get a strike after the first few feet reel in and try again and make another cast. Fishing cover like this there is no need to reel the bait all the way to the boat. Work the bait slowly to get that strike from the bass that is hiding in the shadows and under cover. Have patience when fishing topwater baits, let the ripples disapear, and let the bait sit a few seconds before you make you retrieve.

When the bass strikes a topwater bait, wait till you feel the fish before you set the hook. If you try to set that hook when you first see the strike you’ll miss more than you will catch. I can’t count the times that lure has been nocked back towards me by the bass striking that topwater bait.

Now for some of the most popular baits, Poppers are among the oldest of topwater bass fishing lures. They have the dished out face with the line tie in the middle. When retrieved they make a slash noise or “bloop” when popped. Poppers work best in warm, calm, shallow, clear water. You get your action from the rod tip not reeling. The harder you snap the bait the more noise and commotion created.

Stickbaits are rounded, hot-dog shaped lures usually plastic or wood. weighted to float nose up. The only action they have is what the angler ads to make them work. These baits have appeal for big bass, just using the jerk, then real up slack and jerking again produces a good eratic side to side motion that gets lots of attention from bass.

Propbaits are cigar shaped and fitted with propellers on one or both ends. Propbaits can be worked fast or slow, quiet or loud, but stop and go retrieves are best. The bass will let you know what is best so vary your retrieve. Be sure to experiment, propbaits are dynamite around sunken logs, lily pads, and shallow cover. Be sure the blades on the lure run freely,

Wobblers and Crawlers, these baits are particularly best at night or early morning, Examples of these are the Jitterbug or the Crazy Crawler. They make a loud plopping sound when retrieved steadily. Use a steady slow retrieve for the best results with this bass bait.

Buzzbaits are a little like spinnerbaits desingned to be fished on the surface. There are two types, the opposite wire types, with the blade above the hook, and the inline type with everything on one shaft. Excellent for clear water, and pick up less weeds. Again experiment with your working of this bait, twitching and vary speeds to create different noises.

Weedless Spoons are also in this category, designed to be fished in dense cover, either through the thickest weeds, lily pads, or grass. They go through the toughest cover you can find. Fishing with weedless spoons for bass you will want to be using heavy fishing tackle, rods and reels. I like to point my rod tip at the lure on my retrieve, and again here be patient and allow the bass to take the lure.

Taking time to prepare before launching your family deep sea adventure can ensure your trip will be a huge success.

Sunshine, crashing waves and hands-on activities. These are three things every kid loves. That’s what makes deep sea fishing the perfect family outing. Especially during summer months when children can get bored, deep sea fishing makes for a wonderful time of togetherness, education and excitement.

Before you venture onto any vessel, you’ll want to run through the checklist below. Taking time to prepare before launching into the deep blue sea can ensure your trip will be a huge success.

Safety

No outing can be truly fun for everyone unless it is also safe. There are steps you can take to ensure you and your family will have a day of adventure as well as safety. Be sure to ask the captain of the boat about the following:

_____ Life Preservers – Make sure life preservers on the boat are current. Preservers need to be within easy reach. The boat should have a variety of life preservers in different sizes to fit both adults and children.

_____ Coast Guard Inspection – You’ll want a fishing vessel that is big and seaworthy, and that has passed all necessary inspections. Look for a U.S. Coast Guard safety inspection sticker to be sure. Also check for a radio and emergency beacon onboard.

_____ CPR – The crew aboard your deep-sea fishing boat should be CPR and first aid trained.

_____ Sun Protection – The sun gets very intense over water. In fact, you get 180% exposure to the sun while on the water as opposed to on land. (100% direct sun exposure plus 80% exposure from water reflection.) You’ll want to pack sunscreen as well as hats and sunglasses.

Fishing

Your fishing experience will be different depending on which area of the U.S. you are in. Water temperature, local weather and current surface temperatures can all play a role in the success of your trip. While these elements may be out of your control, there are other elements you need to verify before casting off.

_____ Experience – Your captain and crew should have plenty of experience fishing in the local waters. They should be comfortable navigating the area and should be able to find sweet spots where fish commonly gather.

_____ Equipment – The boat you choose to sail on should be outfitted with the latest fish-finding electronics to help ensure you get what you came for.

_____ Bait – Bait used while fishing should be indigenous to the area. Fish can be finicky about what they will and will not eat.

_____ Unwanted Transfer – Be sure to wash your hands (or have the crew wash their hands) after applying sunscreen, aftershave or other scented lotions. The smell (and taste) can transfer to the bait causing the fish to stop biting.

Kids

When deep sea fishing with kids, special considerations come into play. Ask your crew about the following if you plan to bring young children onboard.

_____ Family Friendly – Is this a family friendly ship? Is language controlled? Are alcoholic beverages served? Is smoking allowed?

_____ Stories – When the fish aren’t biting, things might become quiet. Will the crew tell stories about the area, share educational information, teach knot tying or allow kids to steer the boat?

_____ Naps – Is there a bench or cot where small children can lie down if they get tired?

Everyone

To ensure the enjoyment of the trip for each family member, you’ll want to:

_____ Bring Plenty of Snacks and Drinks – Even though the boat may provide chips or sodas, they may be limited in their variety. Pack your child’s favorite snacks and juices plus plenty of water. You’ll need to stay hydrated while out in the sun.

_____ Get a Good Night’s Sleep – Deep sea fishing is an absolute blast! It can be tiring, however, especially for younger children. Be sure to get a good night’s sleep before venturing out.

_____ Take Dramamine – If you are prone to seasickness, or don’t know if you will become seasick, take Dramamine or Bonine the night before and the morning of your trip just to be on the safe side.

_____ Bring Your Camera! This will be a day that memories are made of. You’ll want to capture every moment for your photo albums. Be sure to bring plenty of film and/or an extra battery.

When you’ve checked off everything on your list, you’ll be ready for a wonderful day filled with family fun and adventure. With the right captain at the helm, your deep-sea fishing journey will soon become a family tradition you’ll look forward to year after year.

Summary:
Many fishermen are surprised to find out that there are some verygood bass fishing spots in Canada. One of the favorite destinations is Ontario with a wide variety of remote lakes providing healthy bass populations.

Keywords:
bass fishing, bass fishing in canada, bass fishing in ontario, smallmouth bass fishing

Article Body:
Smallmouth bass can be found in Ontario’s Great Lakes as well as the glacial lakes of the Canadian Shield and in a number of rivers, creeks, and lakes in this beautiful Canadian province.

Largemouth bass are commonly found in warmer bodies of water with shallow cover, usually comprised of fallen timber and weeds or stone outcrops. Some of the lakes with mixed habitat result in the largemouth region intersecting and co-mingling with that of smallmouth, making for a variety of fishing opportunities.

In Ontario, smallmouth bass fishing success is usually optimised in more open water, where you can utilize light to medium-action six to ten pound test lines and normally a six foot spinning rod. The fly fisherman will also find smallmouth bass eager to attack top-water poppers or minnow-shaped ribbons in a shallow water setting.

During the Canadian summer, deep underwater points, submerged islands, rocky shoals and weed bed edges are the prime locations to snag these agile and spectacular fighting species of bass.

Ontario smallmouth bass fishing is somewhat unique when compared to other bass fishing settings. In the rugged Northern Ontario lakes and rivers where some of the best medal smallmouth bass fishing can be experienced, smallmouths favor the unsteady clear lakes with little plant life and congregate in shoreline rocks and points. But don’t limit your fishing to the shoreline as some of the prize catches can be had in the deeper water.

If you really want to experience the great remote areas you can charter with Wilderness Air and fly in to your own exclusive lake. You can bunk in a deluxe outpost cabin, which are very well maintained and comfortable. Wilderness Air charters is one of the best ways to experience the Ontario smallmouth bass fishing challenge!

Smallmouth bass derived their name from the anotomical fact that the rear end of the lower jaw does not extend past the eye, while the lower part of the jaw of a largemouth does. There is also a low notch linking the dorsal fins to the body that resembles a series of dark broken bars.

The smallmouth bass typically matures between the ages of roughly two and four years and often has a life span of over ten years. On a light line, the Ontario smallmouth bass is a fierce competitor and pound for pound one of the best battles in Canadian angling. First time bass fishermen are always shocked by the dramatic and frequent jumps coupled with the powerful ability to dive quickly to awesome depths. That’s how bass fishing becomes a habit and compulsion that is hard to give up and why bass fishermen keep migrating back to Ontario for return visits. After battling one of these determined creatures the average fisherman is always surprised to find that the average length for a smallmouth ranges between only ten and about twenty inches. The current Canadian record for the biggest smallmouth bass caught in Ontario is a little over ten pounds.

In terms of the better types of lures to use, crawling spinnerbaits or retrieving shallow-running crankbaits along the sub-merged weed patches are very effective. Both species of bass found in in deeper water are attracted to diving crankbaits. Largemouth tecniques employed in most other locations are also effective in Ontario. Tactics vary from flip-and-pitch styles used in the shallow weed beds, docks, and stumps, to the exciting top-water stroke on jerkbaits, poppers, and hovering plastic worms.

If you have never fished for smallmouth in Ontario there are a few points to remember.

Keep in mind that Ontario smallmouth bass fishing is a little different from the the largemouth bass experience. If you are used to fishing largemouth primarily in weed beds, you will find the smallmouth bass would rather hide out where the rock ledges drop suddenly. The popular baits are crawfish, minnow, leeches and hellgrammites. You will likely have success using everything that resembles a minnow such as plastic worms or flag flies.

Also when fishing for Ontario smallmouth bass you will usually find schools of fish about the same size so if you are not satisfied with the size of fish taken from a given location you should probably move on to a fresh spot. If you’ are releasing live bait from your boat use as many lines as is permissible.

The season from the middle of June through to the fall is the best time to plan your trip to Ontario. In the early part of the season the smallmouths are often found on the shallower beds, and by fall they are found in the 10 to 20 foot deeper waters. At that time you should group rattletraps, cranks and jigs, and float a marker buoy to mark the school area.

Try it once and I guarantee you will be telling your friends and planning a return trip next season to Ontario Canada.

One of the most popular sports in the United States is bass fishing. Thousands of articles had been written about this sport, from tips to testimonials to experiences. Thousands or maybe millions are hooked in this sport. You can usually find them basking on their bass fishing in great lakes and rivers or other aquatic formations in the United State.

One of the ore popular fishing venues for bass fishing is the Thousand Islands. This is a group of more than 1,000 small islands in east central North America, in St. Lawrence River just east of Lake Ontario, to be particular.

Most are part of southeastern Ontario and the rest are part of northern New York; and many of these islands are privately owned. It has been estimated that there are as many as 1,700 islands, but an exact count is difficult because of the large number of tiny islets. The largest is the Wolfe Island (127 sq km/49 sq mi) in Ontario. The islands have been a popular summer destinations since the mid 1800’s.

Because of these, Ontario’s most important scenic and recreational attraction is its waters. The province is home to some 250,000 lakes and has thousands of rivers and streams. Four of the Great Lakes are the Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The extensive shorelines of these lakes provide a natural playground for the people. Lake Simcoe, Muskoka and others, are very accessible lakes from the north of Toronto. They are also popular vacation centers. Ontario also shares with New York’s one of the greatest scenic attractions in North America, the Niagara Falls.

The Thousand Islands make a patch work of the river as it leaves Lake Ontario. The islands cater to large rocks, hold farms, estates, and summer cottages that can cost millions of dollars. Now, because of the popularity of it as a vacation and fishing destination, there are islands where in resorts and lodge houses are put up for the accommodation needs of the tourists and bass fishing enthusiasts.

You will find also a lot of establishments that sells and rents gears and boats to be used for their bass fishing. Restaurants are abundant if you finally get tired of eating your catch.

Ontario’s fishing activity can be divided into commercial fishing and recreational or sport fishing. Although fishing was an important economic activity in the 19th century, the commercial catch is relatively small today. Like other fishery problems; overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction, and the introduction of predators have greatly reduced catches.

Thousand Islands being very rocky are places that small mouth bass species love to stay and live. The beautiful scenery and the rocky background of Thousand Islands, bring adventures to bass fishing aficionados and lovers. They loved to go there not just for bass fishing but also for sight seeing and camping. There, they tried to commune with nature and feed their imaginations.

A large part of Canada’s freshwater catch comes from Ontario. The major species of fish caught during recreational fishing are perch, smelt, walleye, and smallmouth bass. While the colorful fall foliage draws an annual pilgrimage of tourists to the area. It is the fabulous bass fishing of the Thousand Islands region that attracts the attention of anglers competing in Thousand Islands for bass fishing.

The water is clearer, and baitfishes are abundant. The bass always make access to the bait and make feeding better. Because the zebra mussels have cleared up the water, vegetation is more widespread, which means the bass have better overall habitat. Both the largemouths and smallmouths are thriving.

While the bass may be both larger and more abundant, they are still found in the same areas discovered by touring pros. In St. Lawrence, those areas include Lake of the Isles, Goose Bay, Chippewa Bay, and the rocky coves and points around the Admiralty Islands. In Lake Ontario, the key spots are Fox and Grenadier Islands, and Chamount Bay

These characteristics of Thousand Islands of Ontario make the place greatly known for bass fishing. The geographical aspect, location and richness of its great lakes and rivers make bass fishing a sport or hobby very inviting.

Alaska is home to the biggest sport caught King Salmon ever. Weighing in at 97 lbs. 4 oz., this magnificent specimen taken from the Kenai River is what Alaska salmon fishing dreams are made of. For this reason, anglers from far and wide are lured to Alaska in hopes of bringing home their own fishing legends.

The frigid, crystal clear waters of the Kenai River are home to numerous species of trophy fish including salmon, Rainbow Trout and Char. At the height of a red salmon run, these fish are so bountiful that all one has to do is gaze down into the clear waters to see numerous sport fish making their way through. In fact, the salmon are so plentiful that one of the great Alaska legends says that the salmon runs so thick you can walk across their backs.

With all of this bounty, it is no wonder that Alaska has become the prime destination for anglers, both novice and seasoned. Accommodating the flood of anxious fisherman during the peak Alaska fishing season (peak season runs from June to August), has led to the establishment of fishing lodges and guided fishing tours with the primary goal of giving guests the fishing vacation of their dreams.

Many of these establishments offer lush, wilderness accommodations that are within feet of prime fishing spots. No worry of these spots being crowded though. Situated on private property, many lodges are let out to only one group at a time which means that you and your buddies or family will be the only fishermen for miles around. And many of these prime spots are only accessible by boat or plane. There are no nearby residents and no access roads. Now that is a vacation!

You can fish clear waters loaded with all kinds of salmon including King Salmon (Chinook), Silver Salmon (Coho), Red Salmon (Sockeye), Chum Salmon (Dog) and Pink Salmon (Humpies) to your heart’s content. Amazingly, it is estimated that a catch of 10 to 20 salmon per day is not uncommon on some parts of the Kenai River. You’ll only be able to keep your limit, of course, but you can catch and release fish till you’re too tired to fish. Always check local regulations and make sure you have a fishing license.

Are you going to be visiting Alaska and would like to do a little salmon fishing but do not want to dedicate an entire week to the sport? Maybe a one-day charter complete with a guided tour would be perfect for you. On these tours, experienced and knowledgeable guides direct you to unbelievable fishing spots on the Kenai or one of many other Rivers and creeks in Alaska . Once there, they help you through every step of the way to ensure that your Alaska salmon fishing experience is unforgettable.

Interested? Sure you are. Why not take some time to see what an Alaska salmon fishing vacation could have in store for you. Have fun!

There are 44 million people in the United States of America fishing today.

In the last 25 years the sport of bass fishing has grown into a billion dollar industry which shows no signs of slowing down. One of the main reasons for its popularity is that bass fishing is a challenge, a thrill, a catch worth getting. It is the ultimate adrenalin rush for pro bass fishermen.

It’s a fact that once you’ve landed your first largemouth bass you’ll be hooked for life.

There are a few professional bass fishing secrets that amateur anglers have now learnt to take their bass fishing sport one step further…and now they enjoy extra income by actually offering bass fishing help to other largemouth fishermen.

There are a few things a bass fisherman can do to become a better bass fisherman today and have more successful bass fishing trips. Let’s go through them now.

Once you’ve learned a little more about the mindset of largemouth bass you’re ready to ask the question:

Where do I catch bass?

The secret to finding potential bass fishing hot spots is easy as largemouth bass prefer a specific living environment, though they can survive quite well in a variety of conditions as they’ve learned to adapt over the years.

The most sought after largemouth species are known as Micropterus salmoides salmoides and the Micropterus salmoides floridanus.

Initially largemouth bass were found mainly on the east side of the Rockies in the U.S., some parts of Canada, and north eastern Mexico however now they occupy nearly all of Mexico and some parts of South and Central America.

Largemouth bass prefer to live in water about 10 feet or less. Most of their prey such as crayfish and minnows live in these warm waters. However, shallow waters do make largemouth bass a little edgy as bass do like being under cover.

If you find know where schools of smaller fish like to lurk you will also find some largemouth bass waiting to strike.

Professional bass fishermen can find bass quite fast.

Beginner bass fishermen should start at the banks. However you will not be successful by just casting and retrieving time and time again. To be a successful bank fisherman you need to experiment with a variety of lures and retrieves until you find out exactly what the bass want.

Another area that many bass anglers tend to forget is bass ponds. These areas can, however, have the biggest largemouth bass and be the most populated.

These bass ponds tend to be in the middle of nowhere – they are prevalent throughout North America – and they house very aggressive bass who will strike a larger variety of colours and lures. They also provide very little cover and protection so chances are you will find the most dominant “alpha male” bass there waiting to strike.

The best way to find bass ponds is by getting a topographical or aerial map of your favourite fishing spots and just exploring.

Once you’ve put into practice these bass fishing tips and techniques you’ll be on your way to bagging trophy bass nearly every time you cast!

This article explains why professional divers, rescue workers, and firemen use water-resistant flashlights, their benefits and how the “everyman” may benefit from such a professional grade flashlight.

Keywords:

Article Body:
If an emergency occurs and someone is in distress, professional divers, firemen and rescue works must respond to the challenge immediately. Waiting for ideal weather conditions or better lighting is not an option when lives are at stake and the potential for destruction is high. It is no wonder that these professionals demand the highest quality in their lighting equipment. Their flashlight must be strong. It must be bright. It must be easy to use. And for many it must also have air-tight construction that leaves the device water resistant.

A water resistant LED torch can cut through the clouds and rain of a thunderstorm, illuminate a darkened street at the scene of a vehicle accident, and accompany a rescue diver searching for wreckage and survivors under water. These lights have proven their worth to many rescue professionals because of their strong, bright light, and long life.

While few of us will encounter the harsh conditions that professional rescue professionals must, we can take much from their experience and apply it to our own needs. Professionals demand a certain level of reliability and quality for all of their equipment.

Professionals as a whole tend to prefer the inherent characteristics of an LED light source. These flashlights burn much longer than a traditional flashlight. They also give off a higher lumens output than many traditional flashlights. This means the brightness is intense enough and clear enough to cut through the darkest areas. LED bulbs are also more durable than incandescent or halogen bulbs, making them ideal for extreme situations like fires, rescues and even the military.

There are of course adventurers out there that do consider diving, treasure hunting or snorkeling a vacation pass time. These individuals tend to consider LED flashlights the superior option and water-resistance a necessary feature. The strength of an LED torch made for underwater use cannot be beat when it comes to illumination.

The everyday home owner or outdoorsmen may not immediately consider the importance of a water resistant flashlight. You do not have to take your torch diving to 60 meters below to benefit from water resistance. If you are in the rain on the side of the road changing your tire or caught camping in the rain for a weekend, it is nice to know that your flashlight can handle the weather. Having these lights can prove very beneficial in your home emergency kit as well. Should rising water, broken pipes, a power outage or other unforeseen problem occur while you are at home, water can become a significant danger. Water-resistant equipment can give you and your family the assurance that you can weather through the problem.

Professional divers and rescue workers have known for a while the value of these lights. With the long lifespan and durability that a LED torch provides, people that use flashlights know they make an excellent choice. Campers, hunters and fisherman have understood for a while that a sturdy water-resistant LED flashlight is a key component of many outdoorsmen’s gear.

In the last 25 years the sport of largemouth bass fishing has grown into a billion dollar industry which shows no signs of slowing down. Their strength and aggression provides a thrill to fishermen who love this unequalled record breaking sport.

The more you understand and know about largemouth bass and the more bass fishing help you get the more successful you will be at catching them and receiving award winning trophies.

Largemouth bass are one of the best fighting fish in the world. What makes them such an extreme adventure for every fisherman is their aggressive nature.

Nearly every swamp, pond, lake and river holds a largemouth bass that’s keen to strike.

The trick is outsmarting them and getting them to strike; pro bass fishermen understand this and make good use of the bass fishing tip I’m about to share with you.

Here are the most common personality traits of expert bass fishermen:

1. Confidence

If you don’t believe in your ability to catch largemouth bass then you probably won’t be catching anything except a cold. They’re a bit like other animals like dogs and horses. They sense your fear, your insecurity, your unsuredness. Bag a bass more often by being confident in your own fishing abilities: your lure, your fishing techniques, your rod and your reel.

2. Patience and tolerance

Expert bass fishermen understand the long hours sitting in wait. Fishing, like no other sport, involves patience and sheer determination. Just because a fishing spot does not product instant fish does not mean it’s not holding fish. Expert bass fishermen have learnt that to snag a largemouth bass they must learn to fish one spot long enough before moving on.

3. Keep your cool

There is absolutely no room for anger in fishing. Pro anglers know that you can never let your temper get the better of you when bass fishing. Fish are very sensitive and it will affect your chances of getting a strike. It will also lessen the enjoyment of others around you. Never let your emotions take over.

4. Be aware of your surroundings and what Mother Nature is trying to teach you

Trophy bass fishermen have learnt to work hand in hand with Mother Nature. Mother Nature tries to show bass fishermen many things to help them bag the catch of their dreams. A pro angler will notice any changes in conditions, fish movement, current breaks, and floating lily pads. They will also be alert to where birds are feeding and where bait fish seem the most active. So stop fishing the hard way and start observing what Mother Nature is trying to reveal to you.

5. Be ready to act quickly

There is a lot of idle time when fishing. Bass fishermen in particular have to be alert and ready to act at a moment’s notice. Bass fish can strike at any time from any location and the only way you’re going to outsmart them and get the strike is when you anticipate their every move.

Fly fishing on rivers and lakes is often portrayed as a communal zen moment in nature. Seek out the Northern Pike, however, and you are in for anything but a peaceful time.

The Mean and Nasty Northern Pike

The Pike is undisputedly a creation of some demon figure. It is big, fast, and mean. It is the rare person that would describe the pike as anything but ugly. We are talking hit with the ugly stick more than a few times ugly! Just to top matters off, this demon spawn has teeth that would make a crocodile hesitate. We are talking about the biggest, baddest fish around.

The Northern Pike is carnivorous as suggested by the bear trap that acts as a mouth. Essentially, we are talking about the equivalent of sharks from the open oceans although they are often jokingly referred to as a water wolf. Pikes will eat anything from bait to game fish to frogs to…well, you get the idea. If it can get to it, consider it bait. Yes, the pike will eat other pikes.

The Northern Pike can grow very large. It is difficult to sort rumor from fact, but they can run up to three or four feet in length. Rumors of much bigger pikes abound much like the Yeti, but there has been little evidence they actually exists. The largest one every caught was a 34 pound beast in Nejanilini Lake in Canada. 42 pounders have been reported, but not documented.

As with any predator, the Northern Pike is all about stalking. It tends to hunt food by waiting in along shores in areas with coverage such as lilly, weeds, or where shoreline vegetation runs out into the water. This is a daytime hunter. It strikes quickly and viciously, so be prepared to react quickly if you hook one.

The Northern Pike is generally not much of a delicacy given a very boney body. That being said, large pikes are a regular food source in areas such as Siberia. In fact, a little known fact is pike fishing in Siberia is some of the best in the world. Of course, Siberia holds many secrets when it comes to fishing, one of the last great unexplored fishing paradises on the planet.

There is nothing quite like bass fishing in spring. The calm air, the warmth, the light breezes, and being one with nature is a feeling like no other.

There is nothing quite like bass fishing in spring. The calm air, the warmth, the light breezes, and being one with nature is a feeling like no other and if you enjoy bass fishing like I do, then you’ll enjoy bass fishing in spring. I can remember many a day spent with my family bass fishing throughout the year, but the freshness of spring always stood out for me as some of our best experiences. I highly recommend trying bass fishing, especially in the spring season, with your family.

The thing to remember about bass fishing in spring is that the water temperatures are beginning to rise from the winter cold. The fish are starting to become more active as their metabolic rate rises with the rising heat, and this means that the bass move out of the deeper water in search of food after a long winter. Normally, bass can be found in fairly shallow areas searching for food in the bounty of the waters and finding them can be a treat for the fisherman.

Spawning in Spring

Spring is known as the “prespawn season”. There isn’t a specific time that the prespawning activities of bass will take place, though and they will basically occur at all sorts of different times and in different temperatures throughout the season. The prespawn season is categorized by the changes in the bass as they tend to be a lot less cautious in their ravenous search for food, companionship, and a spawning partner.

The bass move back and forth from the shallower waters a few times a day to feed, so finding them in the shallow portions can be generally easy. Bass eat high energy foods in the spring like crawdads and other smaller fish that help give them the protein they need to accomplish all the goals they have in the spawning season. Making yourself familiar with the location of the shallower portions of the body of water in which you are fishing is always a good strategy for catching that giant haul of bass.

Also, become familiar with the foods in the lake and hide out there. Staking out the good crawdad areas is a surefire way to locate large pools of bass. Look for trees, stumps, rock piles or other debris that run from shallow to deep and troll that area. A good angler also becomes familiar with the size of the bass food of choice and lures his or her rod accordingly to try and slip one past the fish.

Bass fishing in spring requires you to do a little research, but in the end it is one of the most rewarding seasons for fishing and a great way to spend time with the family, learn about nature, and explore lakes and other bodies of water.

Imagine yourself getting out on the lake, the river or even onto the saltwater and taking along your Humminbird Matrix 20. You will easily find out where you are when you plug into the GPS guide. It will help you find your favorite hotspot. Then, you can use the sonar to give you a great picture of what’s down below the surface. You see your fish. You know where it is and where it is heading. You can land your line right where it is and within minutes be reeling him in. If you didn’t have the Matrix 20, you would still be trying to find that hotspot!

The Matrix 20 is a great fishfinder because it is portable. It is easily moved from one location to the next making it easy for you to fish no matter where you are. Besides this feature, the Humminbird Matrix 20 offers several other features. Let’s take a closer look at how and why this fish finder will help you see clearly where your fish are hiding.

First off, the Matrix 20 uses a single beam, 24 inch sonar. It is capable of going down 800 feet. That’s 800 feet of clear viewing for you. You’ll know what’s floating down there, where it is, and then you’ll be able to plan your course of action.

You will also find that the Matrix 20 is GPS ready. You can connect your hand held GPS to it and benefit from the easy reading ability that the Matrix 20 offers.

It also features a water temperature gauge. This is helpful if you know your fish. Some fish prefer certain temps to swim in. If you are not in warm or cold enough water, they are likely not to be either.

You don’t need to worry about the Matrix 20 getting wet out there because it is waterproof and you’ll not need to worry about it falling. It is impact resistant. This is great especially when the boat gets a little too rocky!

Fill your cooler with fish when using the Matrix 20!

If you have never been deep sea fishing before, then a treat could be heading your way, but what can you expect from a day out on a deep sea fishing trip and what do you need to ensure you make the most of the day?

Keywords:
deep sea fishing trips

Article Body:
Deep sea fishing has become a sport for many fisherman; people competing on who will catch the heaviest fish, or, who will catch that certain fish that everyone wants.

More often than not, what you catch could just be down to the luck of the draw. However, experienced fisherman knows how to encourage the right fish to come along and take their bait.

Fishing isn’t just about competing; fishing is also about having fun.

There are many different ways to fish, including, fishing on a riverside bank, crab fishing, fishing from a beach, but deep sea fishing offers a totally different experience.

The fish you are likely to catch from a boat is very different from the fish you would catch in a river. There is a rush of excitement when you travel out on a boat which brings you closer to the underwater world.

More often than not, when you decide to go out on a deep sea fishing trip, the crew of the boat will have everything you need to equip you for the day ahead. They will provide the rods, bait and tackle as well as their experience to ensure you get the best out of the day.

Deep sea fishing is not only relaxing, it is fun! If you decide to go with friends or family, there is an air of anticipation of who might catch the first fish, how big will the fish be, will they manage to reel the fish in, or will they have a battle on their hands.

The same excitement that comes when you caught your first ever fish, maybe sitting on that river bank, comes back and once again, you have a memory that can stay with you for the rest of your days.

One of the great reasons of going on a Deep sea fishing trip with a crew, is that although it may be a new experience for you, the crew have all the knowledge that is needed to help you catch some fish so that you don’t go away disappointed.

They know the spots to go to at certain times of year, because fish are creatures of habit to. They know which bait to use to catch the best fish, and just as important, they know what to do when you get a bite, especially if you have caught one that doesn’t want to come out of the water without a fight.

You don’t have to take the fish away with you if you don’t want to; you can unhook the fish, throw it back into the water and let it go on its merry way. The day is about you enjoying yourself in whatever way suits you best.

Generally, on a fishing trip, food and drinks would be made available, but it is always handy to take a snack and drinks with you just in case. You generally wouldn’t need to take any kind of fishing equipment with you, as this should all be provided, but it is always wise to clarify this first.

So the next time you are on holiday wondering what to do, or perhaps thinking about doing something with a group of friends, consider a day out on a deep sea fishing boat, where you can spend the day relaxing as well as having a few laughs as the day unfolds.

Don’t forget, kids love to fish too, so arrange a trip for them which will be a memory that will stay with them for years to come.

Fishing is one of the oldest activities known to man. Archaeologists have found ancient dumps of shell and bone, cave paintings depicting fishing and even hooks made from bone. There is even a theory that states we might be closer to the fish we try and catch than we think. The “Aquatic Ape Hypothesis” contends that human beings spent a time living by and catching their food from the shallows of lakes and oceans. The controversial theory contends years of living that helped us to look different from the apes and chimpanzees thought by some to be our ancestors because of this time evolving by water.

The ancient river Nile was an angler’s paradise. The Egyptians relied on fresh and dried fish as a staple in their diets, and the various methods they used have been well represented in many ancient representations from their lives. Although they had some tools like nets, baskets and even hooks and lines, the fish caught were often clubbed to death. Perch, catfish and eels were among the most important catches in the Egyptian times.

The other bed of civilization, Greece, did not share Egypt’s love of fishing. Still, there is a depiction on a wine cup from 500 BC that shows a boy kneeling over a stream with a live capture net in the water below him. It’s unclear why the boy was ‘fishing’ however, since the device is clearly for live capture. There is also evidence the Romans fished with nets and tridents off the sides of boats. One of their most famous Gods, Neptune, is depicted usually with a fishing trident. There are references to fishing in the Bible, too.

Perhaps the most recognizable tool for fishing is the hook. No one knows for certain, but it’s quite probable prehistoric man was using some form of a hook over 40,000 years ago. Experts have had some problems pinning down exact dates since they know most of the materials used back then were most likely wood and not very durable. British Isle anglers catch fish with hooks made from the hawthorn bush, right up to the present day. Although Stone Age man had the tools necessary for making bone hooks, it is hard for scientists to get exact dates since bone does not define its age well. The oldest known hooks have turned up in Czechoslovakia, but others have turned up in Egypt and Palestine. The Palestinian hooks are believed to be over 9,000 years old, proving that fishing has been around for a very long time indeed.

Indians on Easter Island made their hooks from a gruesome material. Since human sacrifices were abundant in the area for some time, the natives made their fish hooks out of the most plentiful material around – human bone. Fish hooks made of human bone were the norm there until missionaries arrived at the turn of the last century. In addition to hooks made of stone, bone or wood, ancient man often combined material to make composite hooks with barbs that kept the bait on.

For many years, the art of tying the Classic Salmon Fly was available and practiced by only a select few. Today, with the all the modern materials available to us, anyone can enjoy the rewards of tying The Classic Salmon Fly.

Keywords:
the classic salmon fly, fly tying, fly fishing, atlantic salmon fly, classic atlantic salmon flies, fly patterns, fly recipes

Article Body:
The first patterns many today consider as Classic Salmon Flies were introduced in the late 1700’s. The flies were called the Peacock Fly and the Dragon Fly. In the nineteenth century what we today call works of art were made strictly for utilitarian purposes; they were tied to be fished. They were not tied to be mounted in a glass dome showcase or framed and hung on the office wall.

When the sport of Salmon Fishing became popular, England was a powerful colonial nation upon which the sun never set. Because of this, tiers of the Salmon Fly were able to obtain rare or exotic feathers with which to tie ever more colorful patterns to attract and catch the Atlantic salmon from the rivers of England, Ireland and Scotland. Feathers from birds such as the common Peacock from India, the gigantic Ostriches found in Africa, and the more exotic Jungle Cock of Africa, were becoming easier to obtain and tie with. Macaw, Tucan, and Cock-of-the-Rockfeathers from South America were becoming very popular on many patterns.

Today many of the feathers commonly used by tiers of yesterday are vary hard to find, and in some cases are even unobtainable. An example is the Great Bustard. The Great Bustard became extinct in Britain in 1832, and today the Great Bustard is a globally threatened species. Stricter import-export laws around the world are in place to protect other threatened species as well, making some materials illegal to own or even possess. Because of this, today we tie Classic Salmon Flies with a variety of substitute materials. Dyed and reshaped Ring Neck Pheasant neck feathers are used on many flies in place of Indian Crow (which, by the way, can cost you your first born to obtain if you are lucky enough to find them). Goose Shoulder feathers have taken the place of Swan feathers for Married Wings. In truth, the only difference between Swan and Goose feathers is that the barbs of the Swan feather are usually longer than those on the Goose feather, other than that it’s hard to tell a Goose feather from a Swan feather. Today, materials such as rayon are used in place of the finer silks used in the past from Japan. Silver and gold tinsel are made of Mylar and hooks are made on an assembly line, not by hand one at a time as in the past.

However, there are some tiers today that have stayed true to the traditions of the past. They use only the finest materials available (and in some cases, the rarest materials available) whenever possible, and they tie them on hooks still made by hand, one at a time. In a few cases, they tie them without the help of a vice used to hold the hook, which allows the tier to have both hands free while tying. Thanks to tiers such as Wolfgang von Melottke, Fabrizio Garadino and Kim Rassmussen, the art of the Salmon Fly will continue to flourish.

Many people have seen a Classic Salmon Fly tied by one of the master tiers of today and wished they had the artistic talent required to tie a Classic Salmon Fly, and there’s good news for those people; artistic talent has little to do with tying a Classic Salmon Fly. All the aspects of tying a Classic Salmon Fly can be learned and no artistic talent is required, although it can’t hurt. The advent of the Internet has made it possible for millions to view, fall in love with, and learn this unique style of fly tying. Modern technology has made a once exclusive hobby available to anyone who is interested, and gives them access to a very old, still thriving tradition that is sure to bring them many years of rewarding fly tying. So, do your homework and get started on one of the most fascinating hobbies you could ever be involved with; but I must warn you, tying the
Classic Salmon Fly can become an obsession. The more you tie the more interesting you will find the historic journey of the Classic Salmon Fly to be. What other hobby can connect the past with the future by tying materials on a hook in such an artistic way?

Fishing packages can be for a half-day or full day. They can be tailored for fishing trips lasting up to seven days and more. Some may include lodging and meals. If you want to join your fishing fanatic, many packages are available for double occupancy. If you’re a single fisherman and want to go it alone, accommodations can be arranged for singles as well. Some packages won’t include charter fees or taxes. Some don’t include your transportation to the state or locale you are going to fish in so be sure to read everything that is offered in the package you choose.

Reputable people in the business of providing the ultimate fishing vacations or packages will offer this advice. A package is a better deal because you don’t have to provide all the stuff. Now, unless you just have to cart that favorite fishing pole onto the plane, fishing guide businesses will have all the fishing equipment you will need. A guide will also know the “fishing holes”. Traveling to an unknown locale to go fishing can end up with you not having caught anything. Your package and guide will be able to get you to the right fishing spots at the best times. Most of all, professional fishing business owners will always advise that you research the company you are going to purchase a package from. Know whom you are dealing with. Check their references and ask if they have insurance. Once you have found the package and the company you want, get ready for your fishing fanatic to say, “That was the best fishing I’ve ever done.” Packages are a great gift because you want the fanatic to have the time of their lives but a time that had little stress. Isn’t that what fishing is all about?

Wade fishing in eelgrass with plastic worms fished on the surface, and other top water artificial lures are productive. Fishing with live shiners is an excellent method for catching trophy bass during the spring spawning season.

2. Stick Marsh Reservoir

Anglers in this river can locate bass throughout the reservoir among a variety of habitats including woody stump fields, submerged canals and hydrilla. Summer 2004 hurricanes drastically reduced levels of hydrilla throughout the reservoir, however, which can affect where bass are located. Anglers should keep this in mind when trying to pattern fish. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, soft jerkbaits, and topwater propeller baits are effective. Wild golden shiners are the top choice for anglers looking to catch a trophy fish.

3. Lake Tohopekaliga

Most anglers here target trophy bass use live golden shiners during early spring. Shiners are fished inshore near native vegetation or topped-out hydrilla . Plastic baits (worms, crawfish and lizards) flipped along grass edges, hydrilla, and bulrush will also catch quality-sized bass. Spinnerbaits, soft jerkbaits and chugging baits can also be very productive at times

4. Lake Kissimmee

Lake Kissimmee is the largest of five main water bodies on the famous Kissimmee River in central Florida. Lake Kissimmee is nationally renowned for producing high quality fishing. Tournament anglers on Lake Kissimmee are posting winning weights of 18 to 20 pounds of bass. Results of an angler survey indicated that bass anglers had an excellent catch rate of 0.54 fish/hour during spring 2004.

Offshore bass fishing is productive for anglers who fish around ledges, humps, coontail, and eelgrass beds. Popular lures offshore include shad-imitating jigs, crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater baits. Fishing with wild shiners and live shad is also effective.

Anglers may keep three bass per day, either under or over the protected slot range, of which only one bass greater than or equal to 24 inches is allowed.

8. Lake Istokpoga

Istokpoga is the fifth largest natural lake in Florida and has an average depth of only six feet. During angler surveys conducted from October 2003 throughout May 2004, anglers caught 124,993 bass, of which almost 55,000 were 2 pounds or heavier, and 1,448 bass were over 8 pounds.

You need to fish bass differently in different kinds of water quality. Following these general guidelines will improve your fishing quality:

Muddy Water: In low-visibility water, a bass finds food using its sonar senses. You must use lures with the best vibration and noise. You can tell if a lure has a high vibration by feeling the shaking of your rod as you bring in the lure. Use your heaviest vibrators and keep them coming at a steady pace so that bass can detect it.

Clear Water: Bass are overly cautious in clear water with high visibility. Their survival instincts kick in, and they are wary of anything out of the ordinary. Use lighter lines that are less visible. Also, use longer casts and lures that resemble bass food in the area. Spinners usually work in clear water, but if they are not working try a black spinner blade to reduce the flash.

Normal Water: This water has normal algae and plankton that filters out sunlight. It is ideal for all types of lures, as the bass are not timid. Use the shotgun approach here and set up 3 outfits, one using a surface lure, one using a deep diver, and the last using a plastic worm. Do about 10 casts with each, and then switch them up to different variations. This is a great way to find out what is working.

Bass fishing reports are of big help in for the enthusiasts of fishing. Other fishers should also contribute and send their reports for the development of the fishing sport.

You’ll find that they are native to Europe, North America and Asia. But, they have been introduced to many areas around the world. Summary:
Fly fishing is an old method of angling. It was primarily developed to catch trout and salmon.

Article Body:
You take the time to get into just the right location in that great stream that your friend told you about. You have been waiting for so long to enjoy this time, alone, fishing to your heart’s content. There are many amazing moments in life but fly fishing is one of your favorite. You’ll get into the waders, getting into just that right location so that you can cast.

The tip of your rod should be in the four o’ clock position with 20 feet (6 meters) of line extended beyond your rod’s tip. Trap the line between the rod handle and your index finger. To begin the back cast, bend your elbow, raise your forearm and move the rod tip from four o’clock to eleven thirty and lift the line from the water. Pause for a moment at this point to allow the line to extend behind you before casting the rod forward. Allow the rod to follow through as the line extends to its full length in front of you. Then continue to work the line in this manner. A fish strikes. The fight is on and you successfully land the fish. This is fly casting.

Fly fishing is an old method of angling. It was primarily developed to catch trout and salmon. Today, it is still used to fish these species, but is also used to catch bass, carp, pike and a wide range of saltwater fish. The difference between casting and fly fishing is that in casting you use the weight of your bait, sinker and bobber to propel your cast. In fly fishing, the weight of the line propels your line forward and puts your fly into position. The fly cannot do this, as it is essentially weightless. The goal in fly fishing is to present the fly gently and to always be in control of it.

When you fly fish, you need special fishing equipment that includes a fly rod and reel, a special fly fishing line and artificial or live flies. These are tied onto your hook with feathers, fur, thread or other materials in colors and sizes that represent natural prey. The key to successful fly fishing is balance. The rod, reel and line, as well as the tippet all have to match in order to have a positive fly fishing experience.

Rod, Reels and Lines
Fly fishing rods are lightweight and long. The line provides the casting weight and is heavy. It can be of differing density, depending on whether you want the fly to sink or float. Line is matched to your rod by weight. Look near the fly rod butt to find out what line weight must be used. Graphite rods are best because they can produce any action that you wish to use. If you are a beginner, buy a basic and moderately priced rod, or borrow one from a family member or friend.

Flies and Leaders
Flies weigh very little. The fly is usually attached to the line by a leader that is two to three meters in length (6 to 9 feet). The leader often tapers to a fine end. This is called a tippet. Tippet size range from 8X, which is the smallest, to 0X, which is the largest. Tippets are set in units of .001 inches. To match the tippet to the fly, you must subtract from eleven and multiply by .001.

For example to find the diameter of a 4X tippet, you would subtract four from eleven. That equals seven. Now, multiply by .001. This size would be .007. What if you have a # 18 fly? How would you calculate tippet size? You would put eighteen over four and calculate. The answer would be 4.5. Since there is no 4.5 X tippet, you would move to the next largest size, which would be 5.

Types of Fly Fishing
There are two types of fly fishing – dry and wet. Wet flies are fished beneath the water surface and are divided into several types, including live wet flies, lures and nymphs. Dry flies float on the water surface and are coated with a substance called, ‘floatant’ to make this possible.

If you are interested in fly fishing and can’t decide which equipment you need to have a positive fishing experience, ask an experienced angler for help. This can be a family member, friend, someone from the local angler’s club or a staff member of the local fly fishing shop. Fly fishing is not as hard to learn as it appears to be. Have fun and enjoy that big catch.

The best way to enjoy your catch is to take the time to enjoy the many wonders that the fishing experience offers. No matter what that first adventure turns out to be, you can make it amazing by spending some time learning the skills from an experienced fisherman.

What is fly fishing? For most people, fishing is just fishing. Throw some bait on a line, toss it in the water and wait for a nibble, but for fly fishing enthusiasts, it’s so much more. An ancient angling method, fly fishing is a method that was initially developed primarily for catching trout and salmon. Currently, however, it is also used to catch pike, carp, bass and other species.

Fly fishing uses an artificial fly as bait, which is tied to a hook with the use of thread, feathers, fur and other similar materials. The idea is to create an illusion that will match a natural vision of food to attract the fish. Fly rods, which are used for fly fishing, are light in weight, but long in their design. The lines, themselves, are somewhat heavy in order to provide the casting weight. The lines may be made to either float or sink and are typically matched to the fly rod according to the weight. The fly itself will be very lightweight and is attached to the line.

So, what is the difference between fly fishing and regular fishing? Realistically, it is more than just the bait, right? Right. The main difference in fly fishing and regular casting is that with casting, you use the weight of the bait to throw out the line, while fly fishing uses a weightless bait and a weighted line that directs the actual placement.

Fly fishing is commonly done in two different forms, which consists of either dry or wet. Dry flies are coated to sit atop the water’s surface, while wet flies are placed beneath the water’s surface in an attempt to lure fish.

Fly fishing rods and accessories can be commonly found at any bait shop, retail store’s fishing department or online specialty store. There are a number of online fly fishing experts that are happy to sell their recommended products. The internet may, in fact, hold the greatest selection of fly fishing gear as customers are granted access to a world of businesses and a haven of products to feed their fly fishing appetite.

The art of fly fishing is best enjoyed in the company of friends. A quiet afternoon on the water, enjoying nature and competing for the greatest catch is all apart of the fun related to fly fishing. There are many areas that are accommodating to fly fishing, including the western United States and parts of Canada.
